Prima Innovation Ltd is committed to making the process of commercialisation as simple as we can. This means that we will speak in plain language, prepare documents in plain language and do our best to ensure that inventors we work with understand exactly what is going on at every step. Remember that the commercialisation process can get unavoidably complex because it sometimes involves patent searching, applications, legal agreements, licensing and sales agreements and lots of documentation and procedure. Our offer is to walk beside inventors and do the dreary stuff while they get on with the creative process. Although we call this our IP Policy, it is actually more of a philosophy. This is because we cannot predict what the most appropriate approach to commercialisation might be in any given situation. It might be to make an investment and take a partial ownership position, or it might be to request a license agreement allowing us to commercialise and receive a dividend from future profits. There are many ways to commercialise and many inventors fear that they will lose control of their inventions and the potential profits they might generate. That is where the Prima Innovation Ltd philosophy becomes important. Our approach is always to protect the interests of all parties involved in the commercialisation of a “thing”. That means the inventor, the people who perform the commercialisation function, the people who believe in and invest in the promise and any third parties who have contributed in some way to a hopefully successful outcome. If there is profit from a commercialisation project, everyone should benefit. We call this philosophy “fair and reasonable”. It’s not a radical concept, but it lets us all sleep at night. There are lots of commercialisation people around. If you have a good idea, we suggest you talk to as many as you need to for your own comfort. We also suggest you come and see us before you make a decision. A cup of fresh coffee, a very informal chat and half an hour of your time.
